KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Tourism Information Centre (Matic) has its very own radio station Matic.FM.
Part of the Tourism and Culture Ministry’s initiative to boost tourism and culture in line with the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS), Matic.FM is a strategic joint venture of the ministry, the Tourism Writers’ Association of Malaysia (Tram) and Twin Holdings Sdn Bhd.
Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz said Matic.FM would provide useful information on the country’s tourism industry as well as tourist destinations.
It would also provide extensive information on the country’s diverse cultures and utilises internet protocol technology, he said.
“This technology enables listeners to tune in to the radio station online, via smartphones or Matic.FM’s homepage www.matic.fm,” he said at the launch of the radio station at Saloma Restaurant in Matic, Jalan Ampang here yesterday.
Matic.FM’s team of radio personalities are a mix of veterans and newcomers, and they include Ritchie Rahman, Nizal Mohamad, Aziz Desa, Brolan, Arie, Azz, Aishah, Cha Sulaiman, Lia Omey, Char-B, Helmi and Zam Mui.
They are volunteers who handle their very own radio segments, and their commitment to running the station is part and parcel of corporate social responsibility to boost the country’s tourism industry.
Matic.FM runs 24 hours and broadcasts in Bahasa Malaysia and English. Its notable programmes include Best Of Malaysia, Anjung Budaya, We Are The Host, Sembang Santai, Citarasa Malaysia, and Celebrity Escape.
Nazri said his ministry hoped that Matic.FM will become a platform for all parties in the culture and tourism industry to promote their latest products, events and services for the betterment of the country.
The station’s strategic partner China Auto Manufacturers (M) Sdn Bhd (CAM) has sponsored two vans for its personalities for roadshows and other activities that involve listener participation.
